MacBook SSD and RAM Upgrade Services
While storage upgrades are possible on most MacBook models. However, RAM / memory upgrades are restricted on newer MacBooks powered by Apple Silicon chips (M1, M2, M3), where the memory is permanently fused with the processor.

Which Macbook Air Models Are Able To Upgrade Storage?
-
Plug and Play Storage/SSD [Difficulty Level – Easy] : Macbook Air 2010 – 2017
-
Soldered SSD/Storage (With T2 Security Chip) [Difficulty Level – Moderate to High] : The Macbook Air manufactured in year 2018 and later have a T2 Security Chip as a guardian. Upgrading the storage for these Macbook Air requires replacement of the T2 Security Chip or worse case, replacing the entire logicboard (which cost a bomb).
-
Apple Silicon Processors with Soldered SSD/Storage (With T2 Security Chip) [Difficulty Level – Easy] : Macbook Air M1, M2, M3 and above do not have any difficulty upgrading the storage as the new logicboard has a different structure and different programme configured in the T2 security chip which simplifies the storage process.

Which MacBook Pro Models Are Able To Upgrade Storage?
All MacBook Pro models can technically have their storage upgraded, but the process varies in complexity based on the model year and internal configuration.

Which Macbook Air Models Are Able To Upgrade Memory/RAM?
All MacBook Air models have RAM soldered to the logic board. However, in certain models, the RAM is upgradeable.
-
Soldered RAM/Memory [Difficulty Level – Moderate]: Macbook Air 2010 – 2017
-
Soldered RAM/Memory (With T2 Security Chip) [Difficulty Level – Moderate to High] : The Macbook Air running on Intel processors manufactured in year 2018 to 2020 are able to upgrade the RAM/Memory.
-
Apple Silicon Processors with Soldered RAM/Memory (With T2 Security Chip) [Difficulty Level – Impossible] : Macbook Air M1, M2, M3 and above are impossible to upgrade the ram/memory as the memory is integrated together with the CPU/Processor. Upgrading the RAM/Memory does means killing the processor. Thus, it is technically and financially not feasible.
